Campeones Cup 🏆 should be a 16 team competition in a European Champions League Format, top 4 E&W Conference = 8 MLS teams and top 8 in Liga MX, each group should have 2 MLS & 2 Liga MX teams, problem solve 👍🏼

Would LOVE to see a Ca-Us-Mx with Canadian, US, and Mexican teams, as long as it has pro-rel (even though my Houston Dynamo would get relegated almost immediately). If no Pro-rel, then just do a MX champ vs MLS champ game

Troy Ellington maybe bc la Liga is basically farmers. So if we wanted that, they can just play against Real Madrid, Barca, or Atletico. Same goes with Bundesliga. I believe Serie A has been more open ended recently as there has been more competition to win the league

no merger please. let mls keep growing as a league. 25 years in existence and we’re finally seeing decent, stable soccer and unique fan culture. Why would we merge w Liga MX? For what? mexican views? Wouldn’t it be better to focus on the stability and rise of USL and potential pro/rel? Also, doesn’t this make Concacaf champs league even worse by diluting the significance of the games?

All star games are dumb in all sports. I rather have the star players on my team have a week off than get injured playing in meaningless match. The players generally don't want to be there despite what they may say and always play half assed and the match always sucks anyways. Stop the pointless all star stupidity. If we want to watch all the stars playing together we watch the World Cup.

    Vincenzo Vieri5 days ago

Yes the corrupt mls that had it least theee teams file bankruptcy and close up, not paying debtors, players ect... but u want to put down another league who has strict rules that also are filed over by fifa, funny because I remember citinovich, owner of queretaro and la ligas strict rules does background checks ect and they make sure ur finances are cleared and he couldn’t prove how he earned his millions so he was kicked from the league and ordered to sell the team so let’s not throw stones when the mls has had its fare share.

@ChioSix1Nine There is a slight difference: short term gains vs long term gains. Corruption = short term gains through bribes, etc. Money will always be the chief motivator, but if it can be leveraged to make it so that clubs, officials, etc. will at least attempt to be fair or impartial then all the better.

  60. Delboy0

    Delboy05 days ago

I think it was an utter mistake to turn the MLS all-star game into an MLS vs Liga MX game. Mexican football has no international following outside the Mexican people. And MLS may have killed international interest in the MLS all-star game by adding their neighbour to it making it a local thing rather than a global game with top European team. US soccer needs to be careful we know that Mexican people are very passionate about soccer and the US has a huge Mexican heritage population, but they must not take too much influence from Mexican soccer because historically Mexico is a mediocre soccer nation and I feel MLS as lazy marketing tool tries to pander too much to Mexican Americans because they are the biggest minority group in America rather appeal to everyone, because soccer is a global game that everyone likes, not just Mexicans.

    Johannes Siemers4 days ago

The international interest would still be low, if it had been a European team. And they probably wouldn't get a European Allstar team to come to play anyway. I don't think the MLS should look to much into international growth. They have to grow their home market.

  64. Delboy0

    Delboy05 days ago

@Farouk Mustapha He is just bias and doesn't see the truth because he has Mexican heritage.

  65. Delboy0

    Delboy05 days ago

@Enrique M I get it. You are probably a person of Mexican heritage given your user name and enjoy the pandering to your community. But to seriously grow soccer in the the US you need to appeal to all communities. It never works when they pander to Mexicans like Chivas USA was defunct club, Texas has some of the worst attended clubs in MLS because they have pandered too much to Mexican community Texas and LA Galaxy signed a washed up Mexican player to pander to the Mexican community in LA. LA FC have the balance right, where they understand there are a lot of Mexicans who live in LA but it is still the club of all communities in LA. Pandering to Mexicans is something a lazy businessman does who doesn't understand soccer and just looks at demographics and says Mexicans love soccer lets pander to them instead of working hard to grow the club organically with all communities. Asians, Africans, Europeans and South Americans all love soccer and when you pander to one community you may lose the other communities. In South America they are seriously saying MLS could become the biggest league in the Americas in the future because even they recognise the global potential of MLS. So why they are slumming it with Liga MX a league no one cares about who isn't Mexican is a huge mistake. There is a joke that Trevor Noah tells about an American getting angry about him never eating a tacos. And he makes the point that outside of North America and where Mexicans live, Mexican culture is irrelevant.

@Real Madrid Sorry if I get in the way, Real Madrid has always won and that's why it was named the best club of the twentieth century then speaking of the twenty-first century (from 2001 onwards) Barcelona came out and wrote the history of football world winning and amazing the world ... has collected 10 international trophies (4 Champions League, 3 European Super Cups and 3 Club World Cup) including 2 Treble (2009/2015) and the 2009 Sextuple (first team to do so), Real Madrid have won 14 international trophies (5 Champions League, 4 European Super Cups and 5 Club World Cup) ... having said that Real Madrid have won in both centuries, Barcelona held their own against Real in the 21st century ... then obviously I put Real first and then Barcelona of course

  85. Real Madrid

    Real Madrid5 days ago

@King Otto The comparison with Real Madrid does not hold up for any Club in the World, the Champions League is the maximum continental trophy (maximum trophy for club teams) and therefore must be put above everything, Real Madrid is the greatest club ever and it doesn't rain on this, then without diminishing Barcelona ... for me Barcelona has a great history that can be compared with Bayern, Milan, Liverpool or Manchester United but never with Real ... among other things, 4 won only from 2006 onwards

  86. King Otto

    King Otto5 days ago

@Real Madrid Well by that Logic Barca have the most trophies give or take in all of football. You can’t limit the discussion to only CL as that would be a different debate. Barca were the first team to knock out Madrid from the CL in the early 60s and went to finals in that era and in the 80s. They were regularly playing semis. Bayern are a monopoly of a league. I truly rate Ajax over them. As a football club CLs aren’t the only factor. The style of play, the way of winning, the ballon dors, and the amount of youth talent produced that went on becoming world class stars. Barca have by far the best academy of all time. Yes 1992 was the first CL for us but that team played the best football in the history of that competition up until that point. Barca completed all trophies in 1912, 1952, 2009, 2015 along with historic doubles with Cruyff, Rikaarjd, and Pep.

If it does add up to 40+ teams with an MLS-Liga MX merger, it seems to me that the people overseeing such a merger put the best half in a top division and the worst half in a second, lesser division. I don't know how the people overseeing this (re-)organization would determine what clubs go in what division. Maybe a tournament between MLS and Liga MX could be set up to settle this issue.
